Would you like to learn or develop your maritime knowledge and skills?
Do you want the chance to be involved in major waterborne events?
The City of London Maritime Volunteer Service (MVS) wants you! We are a social and welcoming group that meets every Monday evening in central London to improve our knowledge in boat handling, boat maintenance, navigation and engineering.
During the spring and summer months, we invite our members to join in with practical training sessions aboard our two RIBs and our vessel Londinium 1; a 44ft twin diesel engine service launch.
To find out more, please join us at one of our New Member open evenings:
At the moment we are particularly seeking individuals who have experience of maintaining diesel engines and / or electrics. We are also seeking experienced individuals that are interested in training our volunteers.
As an MVS member you can also:
- Learn to drive power boats. Our volunteers regularly carry out safety boat duties at local sailing clubs.
- Take part in major London events. Our group has previously provided vital support at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee River Pageant, the London 2012 Olympics and the Henley Royal Regatta.
- Benefit from discounted RYA-approved courses. MVS members have previously undertaken RYA-diesel engine, VHF radio, RYA Powerboat II and RYA Day Skipper courses.
- Have fun and make new friends at our regular social events. We always head out for socials on Monday evenings, and in recent months we have organised Christmas meals (with sea shanties!), and our members have had the opportunity to attend fireworks displays and the London Boat Show.

We also have a Unit based in Putney, so if you would like to join this Unit please mention this when attending an open evening with the City of London's Maritime Volunteer Service.
If you can’t attend our open evening, or have any other questions, please get in touch with Melissa.
